Kopon Airdo Wins Appeal in the First District Appellate Court
Andrew Kopon Jr. recently won an appeal in the First District Appellate Court for a client of the firm. The plaintiff in this action, an Illinois resident, filed a variety of contract based counts against out-of-state defendants, claiming these defendants failed to perform promotional obligations related to an event that would take place in Kansas City, Missouri. The trial court dismissed the action for lack of specific personal jurisdiction, finding the limited email communications and unspecified telephone calls concerning the claimed out-of-state transaction did not satisfy the due process, minimum contacts test. On appeal, the First District Appellate Court of Illinois affirmed the trial court’s ruling, finding no specific personal jurisdiction over these out-of-state defendants.
